A key component of worship and praise has always been music.  The tradition of Western music at St Stephen's is not only a reflection of the historical beauty of the ancient, and its continued purpose in reverent worship, but also the rediscovery of this gift at a time when so much of what was the nature of Western worship has been forgotten or discarded in order to find some contemporary substitute.  

 

Our services include Matins, Vespers, and Liturgies, which are all sung in the tones and settings of the Gregorian, Ambrosian, and Sarum tones.  Traditional plainchant and polyphony selections including instrumental accompaniment by organ, cello, harp, woodwinds, and percussion are also part of the musical offering.
